In the Middle Ages, the city of Leipzig (Latin “Lipsia”) was the intersection point of the trade routes Via Regia and Via Imperii, which is why numerous markets emerged there.
In 1507, Leipzig was granted the staple right, which required all passing traders to unload their goods at the staple point and offer them for sale.
The Leipzig Trade Fair also has its origins in these medieval market days. That is also what this mini-expansion is about.
